Khanye’s PSL Winner Prediction, Rules Out Sundowns

Orlando Pirates have been picked as the team likely to win the 2018/19 Absa Premiership title, according to former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye.

Khanye has been impressed with Bucs’ enterprising style of play, although he has his concerns about the team’s inconsistency.

The Buccaneers are on 36 points from nine wins and nine draws from 21 matches, with the team’s next match set to be at away in KwaZulu-Natal against Golden Arrows on Saturday.

“Orlando Pirates get my prediction for winning the league this season. Yes, they haven’t been consistent, but that has been due to lack of luck on many occasions as the team has been playing well. They have been playing good football and scoring goals,” said Khanye.

“You know, luck is needed sometimes in football in order to win games. But there has never been a doubt about the players’ performances. When (Thembinkosi) Lorch isn’t scoring, Vincent Pule will score. When Pule is not scoring (Augustine) Mulenga comes and scores. When Mulenga isn’t scoring the other Zambian guy, Justin Shonga, scores. Ben Motshwari, the defenders – every one of them is capable of scoring. They work for each other as the team. All I would ask from them would be to be consistent in their goalkeeping department and defence,” he added.

According to the former star, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns could struggle to defend their title, and he explains why.

“I don’t see Sundowns defending the league. They have not been consistent of late. I think the main problem with Sundowns is that they lost the spine of their team after Percy Tau and Khama Billiat. I don’t think they have successfully replaced them,” concluded the former midfielder.
