Why Chiefs Casualty May Have Donned The Shirt For The Last Time…
Joseph Molangoane hasn’t played for Kaizer Chiefs in almost seven months now, and recent comments from Ernst Middendorp have thrown his career at Naturena into doubt.
Molangoane suffered a nasty ankle break back in August as the 2018/19 season was in its early stages, with the injury against Free State Stars requiring surgery and plenty of rehabilitation.
Status updates from the club had suggested that he was nearing a return to action for Chiefs as the business end of the campaign approaches, though Middendorp has admitted that he is unlikely to play for the club again before the season is out.
Speaking to the media today, the German said, "He's far behind, I think he has no chance of coming back into the team this season.”
Why this will be most worrying for the attacker, who has been deployed as a right wingback of late, is the fact that his current Amakhosi contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and he will now have no chance to prove to them that he deserves an extension.
Chiefs have already opened up their chequebook to sign a young Reeve Frosler as their long-term replacement from Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and with Kgotso Moleko also fighting it out for a new deal then things could look bleak for the former Chippa United man.
‘Tight’ will instead have to work extra hard in training to try and convince Middendorp that he still has something to offer as the Glamour Boys look towards a more successful 2019/20 campaign.
