In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, a Premier Soccer League striker was asked about his view regarding a suggestion that was made about the Absa Premiership.
The suspension of the domestic season is still indefinite at this point due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country and the increasing number of positive cases.
As reported earlier this month, Bidvest Wits midfielder, Thabang Monare experienced some backlash for suggesting that log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs should be crowned champions if the season is unable to continue due to the coronavirus.
Speaking in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Black Leopards, Joseph Mhlongo was asked about his view on the matter following Monare’s comments.
“Obviously, I will beg to differ with what he is saying because I am playing for a team that is at the bottom of the league table. If they give the title to (Kaizer) Chiefs, who are at the top, then obviously at the bottom it will be a case of Black Leopards being relegated and AmaZulu FC going to the play offs, and that is not what I want to happen. I think the people that have to make that decision will do the right thing and will consider everything. Everybody will be happy with a decision that will be fair to all of us.”

“I personally think that we should finish the games so that no one will complain and say we were relegated with six games left to play or Chiefs won the league with eight games left, you see? That’s why I am saying let us finish the games because, that way, everybody will be where they’re supposed to be at the end of the season,” he said.
Mhlongo also discussed:
- His current situation at Black Leopards
- Interest in his services from Highlands Park
- The possibility of a salary cut at the club during the COVID-19 nationwide lockdown
