South African Football Association President, Dr Danny Jordaan has given his well wishes to Banyana Banyana coach, Vera Pauw and her players ahead of the Cyprus Women’s Cup.
Earlier today at a media briefing held at the SAFA headquarters, Jordaan took the time to spur the women’s senior National team as they enter their final preparations ahead of the tournament.
Pauw declared that international tournaments such as the Cyprus Women’s Cup would help in building a solid squad for the Rio Olympics in 2016.
“Cyprus Cup a great opportunity,” said Pauw on SAFA’s official twitter.
“We started on Sunday with a squad of 30 players.”
“Rio Olympics a big target at the moment. We are building a team for the future as well,” she further stated.
Banyana have been drawn in Group C together with Belgium, Czech Republic and Mexico. The South Africans will be based in Ayia Napa.
Meanwhile, Banyana veteran striker, Portia Modise was awarded with a golden boot for scoring over 100 international goals, with Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Noko Matlou receiving framed jerseys for surpassing a 100 matches for the national team.
