Jomo Cosmos boss, Jomo Sono, has confirmed to the Siya crew that he will assist the team’s defender Ange Lebahi in a contractual matter he is facing.
The player, who joined Ezenkosi after playing for African Warriors, allegedly signed a pre-contract with Cape Town All Stars before he finalised his move to Sono’s side.
However, it is alleged that the Ivorian signed a pre-contract with Igugu Lekapa during Elasto Kapowezha’s time as the club’s CEO, whilst knowing that he had an existing deal until 2017 with Warriors.
As reported in this week’s Soccer Laduma newspaper, issue 991, Sono blames the Mother City club of alleged wrongdoing on the matter.
“They are wrong. Lebahi told All Stars that he still had a contract with African Warriors, but Elasto said, ‘No problem.’ As a club, how do you sign a pre-contract when there are still 16 months left? They are putting themselves in trouble because the rules state you can only sign someone who has six months remaining on his contract. The case is not against us, it’s against Lebahi, so I’m going to represent him because it’s wrong what All Stars did. We got his clearance from Warriors,” Sono told the Siya crew.
When asked to comment, Kapowezha said, “Since I’m not involved at the club, it’s very difficult. I might be seen as taking sides. Whatever I say might have a bearing on the case.”
