Bidvest Wits assistant coach Paul Johnstone admits that his side couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2018/19 league season.
The Clever Boys registered their second Absa Premiership win in as many games after beating Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 on Tuesday night.
It was also their second three goal haul after beating Free State Stars 3-0 in their opening league game this past weekend.
Speaking after his side’s 3-1 win over Chiefs, Johnston said the hard work they put in during pre-season has laid the foundation for a successful start to the 2018/19 campaign.
“We have had a gruelling few weeks in the pre-season. We changed the squad. The guys have been fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for a better start,” Johnstone told SuperSport.
“The only things that is important is that next to our name on the points column, it says six and we are over the moon with that.
“We showed our hand tonight. A lot of the new guys coming in showed a great performance. Not only from the new guys but the entire team and squad as a whole. If we can carry on like this then there are no complaints.”
Johnston confesses that they didn’t have it all their own way on Tuesday night against chiefs, but it is those moments where you have to push through and get the victory.
“Through the middle part of the first half we looked a bit wobbly to be fair, even though we were up and we needed to change things,” added Johnstone.
“We changed the shape a little bit just before half time. The half time chat was just to stop them, they were taking advantage of the space in the midfield and we needed to keep them on the outside.
“When we came back, as long as they continued doing what we asked of them then there was no danger and I think that proved it.”
