Cape Town City’s chairman, John Comitis has confirmed that no deal has been agreed to as yet with Mamelodi Sundowns for the services of one of his wingers.
Lyle Lakay, who joined the Mother City-based club in the July/August transfer window last year, is currently being heavily linked with a move away from Citizens, with the club’s chairman confirming that he is open to entertaining offers for the 26-year-old.
However, there has been talk in the football fraternity that Sundowns have already agreed on terms with City for Lakay, with Comitis revealing that nothing has been agreed to as yet, although he is aware of interest from both Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.
“I haven’t done so, (agreed with Sundowns)” Comitis told Soccer Laduma. “I know that there was interest from Sundowns and I know that there is interest from Wits. I was more interested in looking at the Wits option because it was going to include a player swap, but at this stage, nothing has materialised,” he said.
“I was in Russia with Gavin (Hunt) and Jose (Ferreira) but nothing has materialised and I am waiting, hopefully, this week to see if there is anything that will be concluded.
“I know Lyle wants to make a move, so if you noticed we have brought (Riyaad) Norodien and Gift (Links), both of them are wingers, they can play both sides so it will be something we would entertain if it materialises,” Comitis added.
