Despite Ajax Cape Town’s official website revealing that Orlando Pirates defender, Robyn Johannes, is set to start training with them in the pre-season, the player’s representative and the player himself have denied that this is true.
The Urban Warriors' website revealed that the 26-year-old was set to undergo pre-season with the club in an attempt to secure a contract as they look to bolster their squad ahead of their upcoming campaign, although it seems that that is not the case.
Glyn Binkin, the player’s representative, told Soccer-Laduma that Johannes is still a Pirates player and will only look towards his next move once his current contract has ended.
Binkin said, “He’s been doing his own training, he’s still contracted to Pirates until the 30th of June and he’ll be going back there on the 18th to undergo pre-season. We’re still looking for options for next season, Ajax is an option, but it’s not the only option. There are certain clubs who are happy to give him a contract without him going to train there.”
Meanwhile, the player himself also explained that he was not planning to undergo any pre-season training at present, even though Ajax was one of the clubs that have shown an interest.
Johannes said, “I’m in Cape Town on holiday, but I’ve been training on my own for two weeks, I’m contracted to Pirates until the end of the month and then when my contract does end, Glyn and I will discuss the way forward. I’m not training with Ajax, I’m going back for pre-season with Pirates, not with Ajax.”
