Newly appointed Cape Town City head coach, Jan Olde Riekerink said he is unable to comment on South African football and their fans as a whole but noticed how a team like Kaizer Chiefs can fill a stadium.
The Mother City-based outfit are able to attract big numbers to their home fixtures, but only when playing against Chiefs or Orlando Pirates, who have the biggest fan bases in the league.
Speaking to the media after the game, the Dutch mentor who has coached in the Netherlands, Turkey, China and Portugal, was asked for his assessment on South African football.
“It is difficult to answer after two games; I cannot give an overall message…” he said told the media on Saturday evening.
“I liked the crowd on the opposite side (in City’s stands), they were really entertaining and really supporting, so sometimes you have less people who really support than a lot of people who are whistling, so I like the attitude but I agree that there are not a lot of spectators.
“But I also understood that when you play Kaizer Chiefs there are a lot of visitors,” he added.
