Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates star player, Jabu 'Shuffle' Mahlangu, thinks that Thabo Rakhale needs to use his skills more constructively.
Rakhale grabbed the attention of football fans around the world after his “yoyo trick”, which he performed in a 2-0 win over Chippa United in March this year. Mahlangu however was not so impressed and thinks that 'Jomo' needs to use his skills in a more constructive manner.
“Thabo Rakhale is a fantastic player. He has that South African identity. But he needs to understand that the trick he did when he chipped the ball up and spun it back – then he turned around and got it back – that’s not professional.”
“He must do tricks in a constructive way. It looks bad. It looks like an amateur! If you are eliminating defenders and creating space for your teammates, that’s what we need.”
“At the end of the day, gone are the days of shibobo for the sake of it. Now, it’s more about the result. Rakhale needs to understand this is the pro level. It’s not the local amateur league. Someone needs to teach him how to bring flair constructively,” Mahlangu told Soccer Laduma.
Do you think that Mahlangu is right? Or do you think that there is space in the game for players to express themselves when there are dull moments?
