Confirmed: Coach Exits Pirates
There have already been plenty of changes at Orlando Pirates as they plan for the 2018/19 season, and it has now been confirmed that one of their coaches is on his way out.
It was revealed on Tuesday that the Buccaneers had roped in former Swansea City man, Andrew Sparkes, as their new goalkeeper coach, throwing into question Ivica Vukusic’s future at the club.
The Siya crew have now been able to verify that Sparkes, who was working as the Swans’ Head of Academy Goalkeeping, has been brought in as a replacement for Vukusic, with the Croatian coach set to leave the Buccaneers.
Vukusic signed a short-term deal with Pirates when he joined Milutin Sredojevic’s technical team last year and played his role in helping Bucs return to winning ways as they climbed up the table in a much-improved 2017/18 campaign. He has now explained that he will not be penning an extension.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Vukusic said, “I will be leaving Orlando Pirates when my contract expires next month. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Chairman for giving me the chance to work at such an amazing club, and I have enjoyed myself working here under Coach Micho.
“I wish the team and the fans all the best going forward, and wish them all the success that they deserve.”
It remains to be seen when Sparkes will arrive to start work with Pirates.
