Khune To Captain Bafana... If He's Fit
Itumeleng Khune Will Captain Bafana This Weekend - If Fit
Stuart Baxter says that Itumeleng Khune will wear the Bafana Bafana captain’s armband this weekend – as long as he’s fit to face Burkina Faso.
Regular captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo, was ruled out of the tie with a knee injury, forcing the head coach to pick another player to don the armband for the upcoming game.
Baxter explained on Monday that Khune was dealing with a minor shoulder injury, but believes that it can be managed so that he is ok to play in the crunch World Cup qualifier. If he isn't ok to play, then Baxter will need to select somebody else.
He told the media, ““Itu, to a lesser extent, has also got a shoulder injury, but that’s one that we can manage we think.”
The Englishman didn’t comment too much on Khune taking over from ‘Tyson’ but did allude to the fact that it is not 100% certain that the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper will be ready for the encounter.
He simply said, “Itu will be captain if he’s fit.”
Bafana face the Burkinabe on Saturday at 15h00.
