Absent Khune Responds To Awards Win

Kaizer Chiefs’ Itumeleng Khune wasn’t there to collect his Goalkeeper of the Season award last night, but he has commented on winning the gong for the fourth time.
The Amakhosi captain was named Goalkeeper of the Season for the first time in 2007/08 and went on to achieve the same feat in 2012/13 and 2013/14 before getting back on top form in 2017/18.
Amid reports that the Bafana Bafana international is not well, his award was collected by his father, Elias Khune, at the showpiece event at Sandton Convention Centre, although no reason was given for his absence.
He has given his thoughts on his success though, and according to Chiefs’ official Instagram page, the shot-stopper said, “Thank you to my teammates, supporters and my family for their support throughout the season. It was a tough season for the team, but I’m grateful for my contribution. We will do better as a team next season.”
Khune’s award was the only one on the night for Chiefs’ senior team after a disappointing season, and they will all be hoping to achieve more in the 2018/19 campaign under the tutelage of a new head coach.
