Khune On Gould And Daniels Partnership, Congratulates City Defender
Itumeleng Khune Speaks On New Bafana Bafana Centre Back Partnership, Congratulates City Defender
Bafana Bafana international, Itumeleng Khune, has talked about the new national team centre back pairing of Morgan Gould and Clayton Daniels while also congratulating a Cape Town City defender for his debut.
Bafana claimed a 3-1 victory over Burkina Faso in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter, with the entire team putting up stellar performances both in front and at the back.
Speaking on the South African Football Association’s official website, Khune, who donned the captain’s armband on the day, says that the centre back pairing of Gould and Daniels was new to him although the defenders executed the plan well.
“I played with Morgan (Gould) at club level and I played with Clayton (Daniels) at national level and it is a new pairing for me under Coach Stuart and it all starts at training, communication is what we’ve been doing and we told ourselves, let’s carry the same commitment and the same confidence in to the match and it worked. Yes, I played (with)r a lot of defensive players but (with) good communication, everything just falls into place,” he said on SAFA’s official website.
Khune then went on to commend City’s right back, Thamsanqa Mkhize, who received his first call-up to don the famous green and gold.
“With Mkhize, he’s very quiet and he is not talkative but, he listens and whenever we give him instructions, he listens and he goes into the position, he played very well and we all congratulated him on his first match for Bafana,” Khune added.
