Chiefs Skipper: We Just Can’t Score!
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, says that the club are working very hard on finishing, even though they are struggling to find the net in games.
The Amakhosi have won just one of their last 15 games in all competitions, running back to last season, and have only three clean sheets since February. They have also failed to score in nine of their last 14 games in the league and cup.
Now, having been given some respite due to the international break, the Bafana Bafana international says that the Glamour Boys will continue to keep pushing until they have a turnaround in fortunes.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said, “We just can't score goals. We work a lot on finishing at training, but when it comes to match situations we can’t get it right.
“It is very sad to be knocked out of a cup competition. A big team like Chiefs deserves better, above all the supporters, who show us so much love. We tried to throw everything at City, but it was not enough to get us the result we wanted.”
Despite their poor start to the season, Khune is confident that the Amakhosi can recover, saying, “We remain positive. We are looking forward to the next game after the FIFA break, and on behalf of the team I want to ask the supporters to be patient. We will continue to work hard until we get it right.”
Chiefs’ next game will see them take on Platinum Stars on the 14 September when the Absa Premiership returns.
