Khune 50/50, Chiefs Defender Out Injured
Kaizer Chiefs’ medical team are working ‘around the clock’ in order to make sure that Itumeleng Khune is fit to face Cape Town City in a must-win battle tonight.
The Amakhosi were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup over the weekend by SuperSport United, meaning that the Absa Premiership is now their only chance of silverware for the 2016/17 campaign.
Khune picked up a hip injury during the penalty shootout defeat to Matsatsantsa, bruising a bone according to Steve Komphela and it remains to be seen whether he will be ready to face the league leaders in the Mother City. Bruce Bvuma is ready to step in, if not.
Meanwhile, Sibusiso Khumalo has been withdrawn from the travelling squad due to a thigh strain and with Tsepo Masilela having missed the last game completely, Komphela may have to change his formation given that he might not have a fit left-back.
The club said on their official website, “Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune picked up a hip injury on Saturday and the doctors are working around the clock to get him ready for the match.
“Defender Sibusiso Khumalo was withdrawn from the travelling team due to a strained thigh muscle.”
