Chiefs Star In Race To Make SuperSport Clash
Steve Komphela will be waiting with bated breath to see whether his star goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, will be fit for this weekend’s game.
The shot-stopper has played 20+ league games this season for the first time since 2013/14, and has been a crucial part of an Amakhosi team that maintains touching distance on the league leaders with just a few games to go.
Khune injured his hip during the last meeting with SuperSport United as Chiefs were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup via a penalty shootout, and was left out of the squad for the defeat to Cape Town City earlier this week.
Now, with Chiefs looking to exact revenge on Matsatsantsa and keep their slim title hopes alive, Komphela will be eager to see his number one shot-stopper back between the sticks.
The Chiefs coach was quick to praise young Bruce Bvuma, 21, for his debut against City despite the loss, however it will be no shock that he would rather have Khune as his last line of defence.
It remains to be seen whether the Bafana Bafana international will be ready to face SuperSport – who will be without a recently hospitalised Stuart Baxter – though at this stage he is still a doubt for the clash.
