As expected, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain, Itumeleng Khune, will play no role in this weekend’s CAF Champions League tie against AS Vita.
The 26-year-old has been on the sidelines for a few weeks now after picking up an injury in a pre-match warm-up, with young Reyaad Pieterse deputising in the Amakhosi goal.
It was always thought that the shot-stopper faced a couple more weeks out, something that has now been confirmed by their head physio, Dave Milner.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, Milner said, "Itu saw the doctor yesterday. He is making steady progress. We are going to keep him in the boot for another week, we'll get him out of the boot and he will start jogging.”
Pieterse is expected to start once again for Chiefs against Ajax Cape Town later this evening having kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates last weekend. It appears that the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper won't be ready for a Nedbank Cup tie with Buffalo on March 26, or the return leg against Vita on March 29.
