Mxolisi Macuphu recalls a funny story, when Orlando Pirates defeated Jomo Cosmos in the Nedbank Cup, involving midfielder Lehlohonolo Masalesa.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview in edition 968, the Ezenkosi man spoke of his midfield dominance against the Buccaneers.
“Just a few weeks ago, in that game in which Orlando Pirates beat us 3–1 in the Nedbank Cup at Olen Park, I was assigned to stay tight on their midfielder Lehlohonolo Masalesa.”
“I was particularly tasked to stop his passing patterns. Within 30 seconds of the game starting, I was breathing down his neck and he immediately complained, saying, “My man, the game has barely started and you’re already so tight on me. The game has not started. Relax, ntwana.” I was offended and told him he should not tell me how to do my job. I decided I should rather just relax myself and concentrate on the game.”
“The game went on, but the complaining didn’t stop. I got fed up and ended up telling him that every week I work hard to close down dangerous and problematic players, but I have to say kodwa namuhla angitholi nkinga niks. Kulula for mina. Yena ngamanzi amancane vele (I was not getting a challenge. It was an easy afternoon for me and he wasn’t troubling me). He then went insane with anger, ha, ha, ha!,” Macuphu told Soccer Laduma.
The former Royal Eagles man also scored the only goal of the game, when Cosmos defeated defending league champions, Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB stadium, with Macuphu scoring a left-footed thunderbolt against Itumeleng Khune in the 86th minute of the game.
What do you think has been the best goal scored in the PSL thus far this season?
