In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1270th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20th.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo Feature

Despite being arguably Kaizer Chiefs’ tiniest player, the headache that Ngcobo is giving the club’s technical team cannot be underestimated. Recently, Stuart Baxter admitted that he just doesn’t know where to use the lad nicknamed “Mshini” in their current system, and that he would have to tweak things a bit to accommodate him. Such a bizarre turn of events if one considers that the 22-year-old was one bright spark for the Soweto giants in a very challenging 2020/21 season under Gavin Hunt, who, ironically, also recently revealed that it’s difficult to tell what Ngcobo’s best position is, but that playing him as close to the goals as possible was perhaps the way to go. He was handed his first team debut by Ernst Middendorp. Ngcobo. He played the full 90 minutes against SuperSport United last weekend, but it’s no secret that Ngcobo’s minutes have dwindled this season. Soccer Laduma examines this interesting situation in this week’s feature.

Kurt Lentjies Interview

In recent times, South African football has seen an emergence of young, vibrant and local coaches, and among this list is Lentjies, who must have been excited and anxious when informed that he would be taking over the reins at Chippa United following the parting of ways with Gavin Hunt. Positive results have been hard to come by, however, and the win over Stellenbosch FC would have come as a huge relief to the Chilli Boys camp, not least Lentjies himself, who will know all too well about chairman Siviwe Mpengesi’s trigger-happy ways. In an interview with Soccer Laduma, the 37-year-old, who is also registered as a player this season, relives this rollercoaster of emotions, shares what the target is for the season and who the first two coaches to congratulate him were.

Sundowns Supporters Feature

It seems Saddam Maake has stirred the hornet’s nest with his recent comments in Soccer Laduma about Mamelodi Sundowns supporters. In his interview in edition 1268, the prominent Kaizer Chiefs supporter expressed his joy at stadiums being opened once again for football lovers, but also could not miss an opportunity to take a dig at his Masandawana counterparts, saying they only fill up 20% of the capacity, putting out a challenge to them to do better when it comes to match attendance. Saddam said they can take a cue from the Amakhosi faithful, whom he says are always out in their numbers to support their team come rain or shine. Of course, his comments haven’t sat down well with the Yellow Nation camp, who have duly responded in a Soccer Laduma feature this week, while also commenting on the Brazilians’ progress so far this season.

Also In Issue 1270…

Timothy Batabaire Interview

Many will remember the gangly former defender from his time with Bloemfontein Celtic, having initially come to South Africa to turn out for SuperSport United. He went on to forge a successful career in the country, building a reputation as one of the most no-nonsense defenders to have graced the local fields. He was part of the Phunya Sele Sele side that boasted such talented players as Moses Spandeel, Siyabonga Nkosi, John Maduka, Kleinbooi Taaibos and others. In case you have been wondering where the Uganda-born man is these days and what he has been up to since his retirement from football a couple of years ago, well, wonder no more! In his interview with Soccer Laduma, the 40-year-old opens up on mental health issues facing ex-footballers, how the media can make or break a player, and goes on to reminisce about a time when his teammates used to complain to the coaches about his rough tackles!

Ayanda Rorwana Interview

It was just two years ago that the midfielder was barging down the first team door at Kaizer Chiefs. After all, he steadily made his way through the club’s development ranks where he excelled, particularly in the DStv Diski Challenge. However, the 23-year-old would soon get familiar with the ugly side of the Beautiful Game, where after two loan spells at Swallows and Pretoria Callies FC respectively, he found himself shown the door by Amakhosi, clubless and dejected. In an interview with Soccer Laduma, ‘Sister Veronica’, as he’s affectionately known, talks about the devastation caused by his departure from the club and why he’s holding on despite constant talks of walking away from the game.

Revolving Column

This week, we hear from Orlando Pirates legend Gavin Lane, who is scathing in his assessment of the team’s progress so far this season. “Stability Unit”, as he’s fondly known, also reacts to the loss to Simba and gives advice to the current generation of Bucs players.

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on the coaching situation at Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns’ plans regarding Promise Mkhuma, Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in a promising Swallows FC player, and more…
