In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1267th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet tomorrow, Wednesday, March 30th.

Lyle Foster Interview
Without any context to what was happening behind the scenes, it’s only natural to have expected Lyle Foster to have immediately followed in the footsteps of some of South Africa’s best exports overseas. A move to French Ligue 1 side Monaco just as the striker turned 18 suggested as much, but what we now know is that the culture shock stalled his progress. Monaco were a bit impatient, and the timing to go on loan at Cercle Brugge did not align with the huge expectation as they found a player low on confidence from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes. It took a move to the Belgian second tier for Foster to reset, and in this sit-down interview, he tells Soccer Laduma why he is now ready to emulate his heroes in Europe as well as help Westerlo gain promotion. By his own admission, the 21-year-old ex-Orlando Pirates forward has never been this honest and open about the last three years of his career abroad, so be sure to check out his interview!

Leonardo Castro Siya Special
The clock is ticking for Castro at Kaizer Chiefs, with the club yet to make a formal decision on his contract, which expires in June. Throughout his spell at the Soweto giants, the Colombian has struggled with injuries and this has prevented him from replicating the performances he produced for Mamelodi Sundowns. When the Naturena-based outfit signed Castro, there were high hopes that his goal-scoring form would help the club finally end their trophy drought, which has been ongoing since 2015. And the player is aware of the expectations. With Chiefs set to finish another season without a trophy, as the Brazilians are in a very good position to defend their league title, it will be difficult for the forward to justify why the club should keep him on his big-money salary. In this Siya Special, the Siya crew investigates what is happening behind the scenes and what the future holds for the highly-rated striker.

Benni & Bucs Feature

In a few years coaching in the Premier Soccer League, Benni McCarthy has proven himself to be an astute mentor, achieving what most coaches can only dream of. A trophy with Cape Town City, followed by guiding AmaZulu FC to their highest ever finish in the league and a first-ever CAF Champions League appearance, the former Bafana Bafana striker has shown signs of being capable of one day working for one of the Big Three. After it was confirmed that he had parted ways with Usuthu last Friday, a number of Orlando Pirates supporters were calling for the Soweto giants to appoint him as a head coach. Would he be the right fit for the club? What would then happen to current co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Davids? In this reaction feature, Soccer Laduma speaks to former Buccaneers players, as well as supporters, while providing insight into the inner workings of Pirates, to find out if McCarthy would be the right fit for the job.

Also In Issue 1267…

Edward Manqele Interview
‘Hlokoloza’, as the striker is affectionately known, has made some mistakes in his career, as he readily admits, but is owning up to them now. A lot was expected of him after he finished his first season in the elite league as Free State Stars’ top scorer. A well-deserved move to Mamelodi Sundowns followed, but things didn’t go according to plan for the forward as he struggled for regular game-time, which led to him eventually leaving the Tshwane giants. In an interview with Soccer Laduma, Manqele talks about his PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber case with Pretoria Callies, the club he last played for before his contract was terminated in January. He also opens up with admirable honesty about some of the issues that have derailed his career and gives advice to up-and-coming players.

Given Mashikinya Interview
Quietly going about his business at Royal AM, Mashikinya has been one of the outstanding players in the club’s first season in the topflight. He has remained with the KZN-based side and kept his position in the team even after some of the ex-Bloemfontein Celtic players were released in a mass exodus in January. In his interview with Soccer Laduma, the 30-year-old speaks about the team’s impressive 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign thus far, which has seen them pushing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race. He also talks about how he and the other senior players from Celtic helped the younger ones to cope with relocation, while he also reveals that he is more than happy with the progress he has made and achievements in his career so far.

Revolving Column
This week, we gather the thoughts of Bafana Bafana’s 1996 Afcon hero Mark Williams as he speaks about Hugo Broos’ squad selection, players’ performances and more, while he also relives memories of the 1998 World Cup in France!

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on a Marumo Gallants talisman who appears to be on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar, an Orlando Pirates star set for a contract extension, the player Mamelodi Sundowns could offer in a bid to secure their target from Sekhukhune United, and more…
