In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1246th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet tomorrow, Wednesday, October 20th.

Samir Nurkovic Feature

The Serbian forward arrived in South Africa as an unknown prior to the beginning of the 2018/19 season and, by the end of the campaign, had turned into the talk of the football fraternity. For a newbie, 13 goals in 26 league games is nothing to sneeze at – it was evident that Kaizer Chiefs, who only paid for his flight ticket to Naturena and no transfer fee, had struck gold with this man! Fast-forward to the final year of his contract and the Nurkovic is plagued by injuries and appears to be struggling for confidence, though he probably still remains a big asset when available for selection. It’s well over a year since it emerged that he was wanted in North Africa and in the Middle East by Siya sources. Indications are that there remains interest, but his future is firmly in the Soweto giants’ hands, even though his reported value is likely to have dropped! What will Chiefs do come June 2022? The Siya crew unpacks the burning question, and the supporters chip in on his contribution at Naturena up to this point.

Harris Choeu Interview

After winning the Nedbank Cup last season, and then changing name to Marumo Gallants, the club had high hopes of starting the 2021/22 campaign well. They brought in French coach Sebastien Migné, as well as Harris Choeu as technical director. These appointments were meant to inspire a flying start, but the struggle has continued. Recently, the club confirmed that they dismissed Migné after the coach pleaded guilty for an incident at OR Tambo International Airport following a 3-1 defeat to Golden Arrows. According to the statement released by Gallants, Migné was charged for insubordination and for using abusive language towards Choeu, in front of the technical team and players. Soccer Laduma got in touch with “TV4” to talk about their head coach’s departure, how his role was not quite accepted by the Frenchman and what exactly happened at the airport.

Justice Chabalala Interview

For a fourth time, the defender has been loaned from Orlando Pirates, this time to Sekhukhune United. Initially, a loan move to Chippa United was announced by the Buccaneers, before it was confirmed that the 29-year-old player opted to join Babina Noko instead. In his interview with Soccer Laduma, the man nicknamed ‘The Lion’ speaks about his disappointment of being loaned again, this despite doing everything during pre-season to show the technical team that he was ready to fight for his place at the Soweto giants. He also reveals how his Pirates teammates and the supporters have reacted to his latest move. However, Chabalala says he’s happy that he has finally got an opportunity to play for a team from his home province.

Also in issue 1246…

Lunga Sokhela Interview

The former AmaZulu FC general manager has no doubt that the Durban-based side will pick up from where they left off last season, a slow start to the season notwithstanding. Sokhela is impressed with how current club president Sandile Zungu and his management have done so far in running the club after they bought it in October last year. However, he admits to being unimpressed with what he calls an agenda and reveals where he places the blame for this. In a forthright interview with Soccer Laduma, Sokhela also talks about the projects he is involved with these days and what his father and former Usuthu chairman Dr Patrick Sokhela is up to these days.

Zama Rambuwane Interview

Seven years ago, Rambuwane had the world at his feet, quite literally. At 17, he had stormed his way through the SuperSport United Academy and forced his way into the first team, that saw him being touted as yet another ‘next big thing’. As it unravelled before his eyes, the Alexandra-born teen found himself jetting off to Tottenham Hotspur and later Belgium, before finding his feet in the Matsatsantsa first team. Now, seven years later, he finds himself clubless and, by his own admission, short of where he had dreamed his career would be at this stage. In his interview with Soccer Laduma, the silky attacker opens up on the topsy-turvy journey travelled, his battles with injuries and how he is looking to bounce back better than ever before.

Revolving Column

This week, we hear from Gordon Igesund, as he remembers his former assistant coach at Bafana Bafana Thomas Madigage, on the sad occasion of nine years since his passing. He shares memories on what made ‘Tommy’ such a special man, loved by all and sundry.

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on an overseas move being worked for a Mamelodi Sundowns star, a stumbling block to Kaizer Chief getting their latest target, Orlando Pirates monitoring one of the players currently setting the scene alight in the DStv Premiership, and more…
