Afcon 2013: South Africa v Cape Verde
Venue: The National Stadium
Channel: SABC 1/ SS 4
Almost three years ago, Bafana Bafana played the opening game of the FIFA World Cup against Mexico at Soccer City - a game that ended in a one-all draw. Tonight Bafana play in the opening game of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, at the same stadium, against Cape Verde and coach Gordon Igesund tells Soccer-Laduma that he is not worried, because know he knows his opponents.
He said playing at home is proving to be vitally motivating to the players and the supporters will be the 12th player on the day.
"We are ready for this tournament and this game. The players have told me that they are ready. From the technical point of view I can say we now know Cape Verde and how they play. This will help us plan well against them. But the most important thing is for us to go out there represent the country and win.
"There will be over 80 000 South African supporters in the stands who will give us extra motivation. I see no reason why we should not win tonight," Igesund said.
Meanwhile Cape Verde defender Guy Ramos said that they will go for attack to win this game. This is the team's first game at the continental tournament and Ramos says they want to do well. "We have come far to be here finally and we want to win. We want to show that qualifying for this tournament was not a fluke. We will go for an attacking formation. We have no reasons to defend so we have to attack and score goals. We know we can score and we will be doing that," Ramos explained.
