Igesund: This Is A Crucial Game
International Friendly: South Africa v Algeria
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Tonight South Africa host Algeria at the Orlando Stadium as coach Gordon Igesund prepares his squad for the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
It will be Bafana Bafana’s final competitive friendly before opening the Afcon next week Saturday, when the host nation take on Cape Verde at the National Stadium (FNB Stadium) in Soweto.
Igesund believes that the game against the North Africans will be one of his most important since taking over at the helm. The four time PSL winning coach says that playing against Algeria will give them an indication of what to expect against fellow North Africans, Morocco, who have been placed in Group A alongside Bafana Bafana, Angola and Cape Verde.
The coach said that the players are aware of the importance of tonight’s game and that of the continental tournament.
"This is an important game. We want to finish off the preparations with a good result. That will motivate the players and the nation as a whole. We know they play more or less the same game like Morocco, and this will help us see where we are as far as preparing for the tournament.
“We now know how we want to play and we have to see some of those tactics at work tonight," Igesund concluded.
Igesund will use tonight’s game to try out various combinations, ahead of the Afcon which commences on January 19.
