Igesund Satisfied With Progress

South Africa coach Gordon Igesund felt his team were the better side in the goalless draw with Algeria on Saturday night.

The countries were evenly matched at Orlando Stadium, with Bafana Bafana - who lost 1-0 to Norway on Tuesday - coming closest to breaking the deadlock through first-half efforts from Katlego Mphela and Bernard Parker.

The friendly was Bafana's final outing before they ignite the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde at the National Stadium on January 19.

Igesund said: "The crowd played a big part tonight, we were obviously doing something good on the field because they are starting to believe now.

"You must remember we played a good team today. They are second in Africa and 19th in the world, and we were the the better team, we were in control. It was a very technical game."

Regarding his charges' scoring woes, Igesund has faith they can buck the trend.

"The goals are going to come. We are getting better and better if you analyse it," said the former Moroka Swallows boss.

He continued: "I think it was important to show people what we can do and we enjoyed ourselves.

"It was a tough game, a good exercise, and exactly what we needed going into our next game.

"The guys are showing a hunger and you can see their fighting spirit. There was a high difference in how we used the possession better."

The four-time Premier Soccer League winner added: "I am happy with the performance leading into the game against Cape Verde."
