Afcon 2013: South Africa v Angola
Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium
South Africa and Angola both played to goalless draws in their respective 2013 Africa Cup of Nations opening games. Today the two nations go head-to-head at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, in the second round of games in Group A.
With three points at stake, both teams will be targeting the win, however, as the host nation, Bafana Bafana will be adamant on giving their home fans something to celebrate.
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund told the Siya crew that the team will have to be at their best and admitted that their destiny is in their own grasp. He said that a win in Durban is critical as they look to progress from the group stages.
“The draw of Angola and Morocco made things easier for all the teams in the group. This has put the destiny to the next round in our own hands. We have to go out there today and win against Angola.
“The most important thing for me now is to get into the players’ heads and try to free their minds because the performance against Cape Verde was not convincing at all. I have to get the players to believe in themselves again for us to move forward," Igesund said.
His counterpart, Gustavo Ferrin, said that they respect South Africa, however Angola will take the game to them. He said that they want to advance to the next round and they have to win tonight to do that.
“We came the the tournament as the lower rated team in our group, but after the draw against Morocco, I see we can do much better with a win. If we can win tonight even the better. They are playing at home and it won't be easy,” Ferrin concluded.
