Bidvest Wits secured the services of one of the most highly rated midfielders in Mzansi, but exactly how much did the Clever Boys have to put on the table before Chippa United let him go?
Xolani Mlambo's transfer was an interesting saga in the latest window as coach Gavin Hunt looked to bolster his squad during the off-season.
As revealed by the Siya crew in May, the 25-year-old penned a new four-year deal with the Chilli Boys ahead of the 2016/17 PSL campaign. However, this was short-lived as the Students came knocking on Chippa's door during the transfer window.
Sources close to the player's camp have revealed that the Chilli Boys rejected several offers from Wits for the player. Refusing to back down, the Clever Boys finally tabled an offer that was too good for Chippa to reject.
Coach Hunt is believed to be a big admirer of the player, and the 52-year-old eventually secured the player's signature.
It was later confirmed that the final attempt to land the player saw the Clever Boys present an offer of R3.5 million, which was too good for Chippa to turn down.
The midfielder made his official debut for Wits when the teamed welcomed Kaizer Chiefs for their first Absa Premiership encounter, beating the Soweto giants 2-1 and securing the their first three points of the campaign.
