How Sundowns And Chiefs Will Play A Role In Ajax’s Survival

Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs will play a big role in where Ajax Cape Town will end up in the new 2018/19 season.

The Urban Warriors have four Absa Premiership fixtures left to be played and in order to completely avoid relegation and having to soldier through the play-offs, they will need to ensure that they do not drop any more points.

However, Head Coach Muhsin Ertugral is aware of Ajax’s bad form on the road, adding that they could be in a predicament where they have to choose which upcoming away fixture to win.

Ajax will face Chippa away this weekend, before returning home to face Baroka FC and thereafter travel to lock horns with Sundowns, all before hosting Kaizer Chiefs on the last day of the league campaign.

“We need to win all home games first and before the season goes to an end, we need to win one away game, you need to choose which one you want to win, Chippa (United) or Sundowns. I am not going to put the boys under pressure, they know,” Ertugral told the media.

With Sundowns eager to claim maximum points in their encounters in order to comfortably win the league, the match against the Urban Warriors will be an interesting one as three points for the Brazilians boosts their title hopes by a large margin, while three points for the Urban Warriors could secure their place in South Africa’s top-flight.

In addition, the Urban Warriors’ last clash of the league will be when they welcome Amakhosi, with a must-win encounter on the cards for Ajax - a result that could decide their position for the new season.

Ajax have managed to secure maximum points from some of the so-called big teams in Mzansi, with Pirates, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits all suffering defeat at the hands of the Urban Warriors in the Mother City.

On the other side of things, Chiefs will be in action against Platinum Stars this weekend and should Amakhosi clinch all three points, it may result in Dikwena remaining at the foot of the table, with Ajax able to extend their lead from the bottom.
