Absa Premiership: Ajax Cape Town v Wits
Venue: Athlone Stadium
Ajax Cape Town have managed to lift themselves out of the relegation zone, although lost 2-1 down to Black Leopards in their midweek clash, heaping pressure on their relegation battle.
The Urban Warriors are currently in 14th place on the Absa Premiership standings and are only above Black Leopards by goal difference.
Ajax has been showing signs of improvement by beating Free State Stars 4-2 and drawing 2-2 with Orlando Pirates, as the hard work continues for the Cape Town side as they try to pursue an attempt to retain their PSL status.
Thulani Hlatshwayo has settled into a central defensive role at the heart of Ajax’s defence and the team has looked more stable since. In return, they have stopped leaking so many goals. He will be looking to keep the back line in tact on Saturday and take all three points on home turf.
“Training has been going very well. There are so many positives for us at the moment. The team looks good. Everything is set for the Wits game, as long as we keep things tight. We are ready and raring to go. We always aim to win our home games, so only three points are good enough,” said Hlatshwayo.
Wits’ six-match unbeaten run came to an end, when they went 2-1 down in their midweek clash against Platinum Stars. The Clever Boys have been inconsistent away from home this season, recording just three wins, five draws and four defeats.
The Students are currently in sixth place on the PSL log and still have a realistic chance of ending in fourth spot.
These two sides last met in November 2012, when they played to a goalless draw at the Bidvest Stadium, in Johannesburg.
