The Marca said, "South Africa's goal came in the 56th minute thanks to some quality 'Roja-esque' football by Bafana players. Parker squared-up to Victor Valdés and Nacho Monreal could not prevent the ball crossing the goal-line."
Barcelona-based daily sports newsprovider, Sport ES, also reserved some high praise for the South African National Team. They reported on comments made by coach Vicente Del Bosque that Bafana were the superior side. Sport ES said, "The Salamanca-born coach acknowledged the superiority of South Africa especially in the final stretch of the game."
The result was arguably Bafana's biggest win on the international stage since South Africa's re-admission to international football in 1992. Though some could argue that the national team's performances in winning the 1996 AFCON tournament were much more significant than a once-off friendly.
