Liverpool will host Everton in a much-anticipated Merseyside Derby on Wednesday, April 20, at Anfield. The Reds have been doing well in recent times, and will be hoping to leapfrog West Ham United into sixth place. Three points for The Toffees would put them above Chelsea in 10th place.
Manchester United are in action against struggling Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Wednesday, April 20. The Red Devils will hope to reduce the four-point gap between them and rivals Man City for a top four finish. The Eagles, however, will be looking to extend their eight-point gap between them and relegation threatened Norwich City and put on an impressive display that saw them claim a credible 1-1 draw against Arsenal away from home last time out.
Deportivo La Coruna are eager to pile more misery on La Liga champions Barcelona at Estadio Riazor on Wednesday, April 20. The Catalans have lost three matches in a row and will be hoping to stay put on the top of the league standings. After a draw against Sevilla, Deportivo will look to cause an upset against their much fancied opponents.
Real Madrid will host Villareal at the Santaigo Bernabeu on Wednesday, April 20, in a La Liga encounter. Zinedine Zidane's men could go top of the standings if they claim all three points and rivals Atletico and Barcelona lose ground in their respective fictures. Villareal will be hoping to cause an upset against Los Blancos in order to maintain their fourth spot.
Athletic Bilbao will host league contenders Atletico Madrid at the San Mamés on Wednesday, April 20. Madrid, who are currently equal on points with leaders Barcelona, will be hoping for a win in order to leapfrog the log leaders into top spot. Bilbao will also hope for a win on their quest to finish as high as possible on the log.
League positions: Liverpool 8th & Everton 11th
Useful facts: The Merseyside Derby has been evenly matched in recent times, with five of the last six ending in draws, including the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in October. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men have looked a rejuvenated side since then, winning five of their last six in the Premier League. Everton’s form has been less impressive, with three losses and three draws in their last six matches in the league.
Sherwyn Naicker: 2-1 to Liverpool.
Man Utd v Crystal Palace (Premier League)
League positions: Man Utd 5th & Crystal Palace 16th
Useful facts: Both sides have a lot at stake in this encounter, with United still in the running for a Champions League spot and Crystal Palace fighting to secure their Premier League status. There is a clear historical advantage for Louis van Gaal’s men, who have won four of their last six against the London club, and the Red Devil’s run of four wins in their last six Premier League games also indicate that this game could end in a Man United win. Another matter of interest is that this could, potentially, be the curtain raiser for this season’s FA Cup final.
Sherwyn Naicker: I don’t think United will win. I’ll go with a 1-1 draw.
Deportivo la Coruna v Barcelona (La Liga)
League positions: Deportivo 13th & Barcelona 1st
Useful facts: Louis Enrique’s men are in panic mode after five games without a win in all competitions, including three consecutive defeats in the league. Their season appears to be crumbling, despite another treble looking a certainty not too long ago. Travelling to Deportivo won’t be easy, with Victor Sanchez’s men having taken points off of the Catalans in three of their last six meetings, including the shock 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou in December.
Sherwyn Naicker: 4-0 win to Barcelona.
Real Madrid v Villarreal (La Liga)
League positions: Real Madrid 3rd & Villarreal 4th
Useful facts: Zinedine Zidane’s men find themselves one point off the top of the table and will be looking to continue their outstanding run of seven straight wins in the league to keep the pressure on Barcelona and Atletico at the top of the table. However, they know that the next team they face, Villarreal, will be no pushovers, with the Yellow Submarine having drawn three of their last six against Los Blancos and winning another in December. The 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu in March 2015 was also the final nail in the coffin for Carlo Ancelotti’s title prospects last season and this Madrid team will not have forgotten that game.
Sherwyn Naicker: 3-0 to Real Madrid.
Athletic Bilbao v Atletico Madrid (La Liga)
League positions: Athletic 5th & Atletico Madrid 2nd
Useful facts: In yet another vital tie at the top end of the table, Atletico come up against an in-form Athletic, who have won four of their last six and are closing in on a Champions League spot. However, Atletico are breathing down Barcelona’s necks at the top of the table, with only goal difference keeping them from the summit of the La Liga standings. Diego Simeone will fancy his chances of coming away with the win after doing so in five of the last six games against the Basque club.
Sherwyn Naicker: I’ll go 2-1 to Atletico.
