Football Betting Tips
Barclays Premiership relegation candidates, Queens Park Rangers host Tottenhman Hotspur in a league meeting at Loftus Road on Saturday, March 7. The home side have lost six of their last seven league games, winning just once in 10 attempts since Christmas Day. The Hoops are one of the only clubs, alongside Everton, yet to record a Premier League win at home in 2015. They are winless in their last five league matches at Loftus Road, losing the last three. They do however have a good record against the Lily Whites - They have lost just one of their previous six Premier League games at Loftus Road against Tottenham. If Rangers claim a home win, that could see them move out of the relegation zone.
The country will come to a ‘standstill’ once again when the biggest fixture on the South African football calendar gets underway. Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates lock horns in the highly-anticipated Soweto derby on Saturday, March 7, at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. The Amakhosi who lead the Buccaneers with 14 points at the summit of the PSL table, are aiming to extend their lead and complete a ‘treble’ win over their nemesis this season. Stuart Baxter’s side have already claimed two wins over the Mayfair outfit - a 1-0 in the final of the MTN8 and a 2-0 league victory in December 2014. Eric Tinkler's troops are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions and are looking to claim a ‘rare’ win over the Amakhosi. Bucs’ only win over Chiefs this season was in the Carling Black Label Cup when Thabo Matlaba converted the winning penalty for Ezika Magebhula after the match had finished 0-0. The Tinkler-led side have not been secretive of their plans to get revenge ahead of this colossal clash. The two teams have met on 58 occasions in the derby and, the Glamour Boys hold the upper hand having claimed 24 wins and managing 22 draws, while Bucs have only had 12 wins over their arch-rivals. Chiefs also have the best defensive this campaign having conceded a low 10 goals in 21 matches. In the current squads of the two sides, veteran midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala is the leading goal-scorer in the derby with three goals. Bucs' striker, Lehlohonolo Majoro has scored twice, but both goals came during his time at Naturena.
Both SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town are looking to redeem themselves following their respective 5-2 and 1-0 Absa Premiership defeats. Matsatsantsa a Pitori will welcome the Urban Warriors to the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, March 7. Gordon Igesund’s team do not have the best of home records having only managed four wins, two draws and losing five outings. They have also scored 17 goals and conceding 18 in the process. Ajax went down 1-0 at league leaders Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night and continue to find points hard to come by away from home. Roger De Sa’s men on the other hand have a bad travelling record this season. In their 10 road trips this season, the Urban Warriors have won just once, drawing three and have suffered six defeats. In head-to-head stats, SuperSport and Ajax have met 31 times in the league since 1999/2000. The Tshwane outfit hold the upper hand with 12 wins compared to 10 for the Urban Warriors, while nine matches have ended in draws. The last league fixture between the sides in Cape Town ended in a 0-0 draw.
A family affair will see uncle and his nephew go head to head, when Clive Barker and Steve Barker lead their sides in an Absa Premiership encounter at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, March 7. AmaZayoni are looking to end their winless streak after suffering their fourth defeat from their last five league matches when they lost 2-1 to the University of Pretoria in Tshwane. The Mpumalanga side currently lie 12th on the Absa Premiership standings with 22 points from 20 matches. Usuthu on the other hand are in high confidence after claiming their second league win of the season when they thumped SuperSport United 5-2 in Pretoria last weekend. Steve’s troops are still reeling at the bottom of the table with 12 points from 20 matches. When the teams last met earlier in the season, AmaZayoni claimed a 3-1 away win in Durban.
Free State Stars are seeking to hand Absa Premiership defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns their second successive defeat when they welcome the Brazilians to the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday, March 7. Masandawana lost their last league outing against Bidvest Wits in midweek, to fall 10 points further behind league leaders, Kaizer Chiefs. Ea Lla Koto came from behind and snatched a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates in their last league match and will hope to halt Pitso Mosimane’s side. The Chloorkop-based side will come out guns blazing as they look to close the gap on the Amakhosi at the top of the league table. When the two teams met earlier this season in Tshwane, ‘Downs claimed a 2-0 home win thanks to goals from Zimbabwean internationals, Cuthbert Malajila and Khama Billiat.
PSL strugglers, Platinum Stars will host another side that has failed to pick up points of late in Moroka Swallows at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday, March 8. Dikwena find themselves in a precarious position, one point below the visitors in 15th spot but could leapfrog the Dobsonville outfit if they claim a draw or a win. Allan Freese’s side suffered their seventh successive league game without a win when they went down 2-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic, and have only picked up 11 points from nine home matches this season. Ndumiso Mabena was on target when the sides last met, netting a solitary strike to hand the visitors a 1-0 win in Soweto.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS V TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
League table: QPR 17th and Spurs 7th
Useful facts: QPR are showing signs that they can climb out of the relegation dogfight. Home form seems to be key to their hopes in this regard. Meanwhile, Spurs’ season could be about to implode. They recently crashed out of the Europa League and lost the league cup final to Chelsea. A top four finish is perhaps their last hope of being able to make a claim that they’ve had a good campaign. They will, however, face a stiff test at Loftus Road.
Glen Salmon: Spurs away win.
KAIZER CHIEFS V ORLANDO PIRATES
League table: Chiefs 1st and Pirates 4th
Useful facts: Chiefs don’t look like the result-churning powerhouse they were in the first half of the season. Questions remain about the make-up of the club’s attack as well. With Bucs being in utterly superb form of late, the Glamour Boys could well be the underdogs in this Soweto Derby.
Glen Salmon: Draw.
SUPERSPORT UNITED V AJAX CAPE TOWN
League table: United 8th and Ajax 5th
Useful facts: United recently stumbled to a shock 5-2 loss to basement dwellers, AmaZulu, much to Gordon Igesund’s disgust. He’ll no doubt expect a reaction when Matsatsantsa take on Roger de Sa’s in-form Ajax.
Glen Salmon: SuperSport for the win.
MPUMALANGA BLACK ACES V AMAZULU
League table: Aces 12th and AmaZulu 16th
Useful facts: Aces are getting perilously close to the relegation zone and need some positive results to turn things around in the near future. Meanwhile, AmaZulu appear to have finally started their season after a good 5-2 win over SuperSport. Usuthu will be targeting all three points in what could be a relegation decider.
Glen Salmon: I’ll go for a wildcard and say an AmaZulu win.
FREE STATE STARS V MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
League table: Stars 13th and Sundowns 2nd
Useful facts: Stars are once more involved in a life and death struggle against the dreaded drop. Of late, Ea Lla Koto have consistently become a team that struggle to keep their heads above water to avoid drowning. This could mean that a star-studded Sundowns side could run riot in the Free State.
Glen Salmon: Sundowns victory.
PLATINUM STARS V MOROKA SWALLOWS
League table: Stars 15th and Swallows 14th
Useful facts: After recently experiencing so many seasons of success, Stars are now experiencing a bleak run of form in the Absa Premiership. Swallows are also in some diabolical form. This could be a relegation six-pointer in the North West Province.
Glen Salmon: Stars win.
