Chiefs’ Ekstein: Why We’ll Beat Wits

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Hendrick Ekstein, says that the Amakhosi are ready to face Bidvest Wits, reminding fans that they beat them twice last season.
The Glamour Boys finally get their 2016/17 Absa Premiership campaign underway this evening as they head to Bidvest Stadium to face last year’s runners-up, and Ekstein believes that they are fully prepared for the win.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, the 25-year-old said, “We have been working hard to be prepared for the season, we are ready to play and, most importantly, we are all willing to work hard for the team.
“If our preparations are anything to go by I can confidently say - yes, we are ready to play in our first game of the season.
“Every team is a closed book for now. At this stage we will rely on our strength more than anything. They might be having a bit of information about us, because they saw our friendly matches on TV. However, we didn’t expose our entire plan in the friendlies anyway. And, by the way, we beat them twice last season, home and away.”
The midfield man played just 16 minutes of the 2-1 and 1-0 victories over Wits last time out, but he is hoping that he will feature much more in the new campaign and help the club lift trophies.
He added, “I am working hard to persuade the technical team to hand me more playing time this season. I didn’t have a convincing campaign last season, but that is water under the bridge now. This time I am prepared to fight for my place in the line-up. Important for me is to make a contribution for the team. We want to lift trophies this season.”
Chiefs take on Wits at 19:30 this evening as the new PSL season gets underway.
