What Chiefs’ Ekstein Doesn’t Want To Be Remembered As…

Hendrick Ekstein is worried about this generation of Kaizer Chiefs players being remembered as the players that didn’t bring trophies back to Naturena.
The Glamour Boys are on the verge of going three whole seasons without a trophy if they don’t manage to clinch the Absa Premiership or Nedbank Cup, a drought that is almost unheard of at the club.
Chiefs have a big chance to take one step towards ending that drought this weekend when they face Baroka in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday evening, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.
Speaking to club’s official website yesterday, the 27-year-old admitted his fears, saying, “It has been two seasons without winning any silverware… We don’t want to be remembered as players that didn’t bring any trophies to the club.
“I have watched Baroka recently and they continue to play well. They have some good players and they play good football. It promises to be a difficult match, but I trust that we will win.
“It is not going to be an easy match against Baroka, but we have prepared well. We definitely want to win this trophy, because we want to leave a legacy and create our own history.”
Meanwhile, when touching on the fact that Chiefs have only beaten Bakgaga once in five attempts – including the famous Nedbank defeat in 2011 – Ekstein said that he isn’t worried about what happened in the past.
“That they beat us previously is history now,” he concluded. “We won 2-1 the last time we faced them.”
Chiefs host Baroka at 20h15 on Saturday night.
