Ashley Hartog appears to be in contention to make his first official start for Maritzburg United, against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening, with the forward close to returning to full fitness.
The 31-year-old moved to Maritzburg during the pre-season after spending two largely successful years with SuperSport United.
Hartog can play in a variety of positions across the midfield and is able to play in advanced attacking roles too. He is yet to feature for the Team of Choice this season, because of injury, although is close to a return.
This was revealed to the Siya crew by United’s Commercial Manager, Younus Kadodia.
He said, “I think Ashley should be back to play some time in the Chiefs game. He should feature as he came through a practice match last Thursday.”
Kadodia went on to explain how Hartog could be used in the starting line-up.
“I think he might possibly be used behind the strikers. With Delron Buckley and Nhlanhla Vilakazi both out injured as our attacking midfield options, we are looking at a stop-gap option. We think he can possibly play in that role,” he said.
