Harrison Gets First Win At Arrows

ABSA Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 2-1 Moroka Swallows

Golden Arrows beat Moroka Swallows 2-1 on Wednesday evening at the King Zwelithini Stadium in an ABSA Premiership encounter.

It was Mark Harrison's first win as Arrows coach, and the victory will come as a great relief to the English coach.

Swallows drop from top spot after the loss, with Mamelodi Sundowns taking over after beating Free State Stars.

Bongi Ntuli had an early chance for Arrows in the second minute of the game, but his shot went straight at Greg Etafia in the Swallows goal.

In the tenth minute Ntuli got onto the end of a Philane Shange corner and had another attempt, but Asavela Mbekile was able to clear the ball.

Two minutes later Ntuli was fouled by Rudi Isaacs in the box and the ref awarded a penalty. Thanduyise Khuboni stepped up and made no mistake to put Arrows 1-0 up.

In the 19th minute Thembela Sikhalhane sent in a cross, but Dumisani Zwane's header went wide.

Ntuli continued to look dangerous, and in the 20th minute, he managed to beat the off-side trap and slotted past Etafia to make it 2-0.

Siyabonga Nomvethe had Swallows first attempt at goal in the 30th minute, but Nkosingiphile Gumede made the save.

Gift Sithole had a chance for Arrows in the 32nd minute from a Philane Shange corner, but the defense was able to clear the ball.

Edward Manqele tried to head in Lerato Chabangu's cross in the 36th minute, but the shot went wide to the left of goal.

Zwane had another effort in the 40th minute for Arrows, but it went wide to the left, and the score remained 2-0 at half-time.

In the opening minutes of the second half Chabangu had two chances, but both efforts were wide to the left.

Mbekile pounced on a clearance in the 55th minute, but his shot went wide of goal.

Manqele tried again in the 58th minute when he got onto the end of a Levy Mokgothu cross but Gumede made the save.

In the 65th minute Nomvethe shot wide again, and seconds later Ntuli had a chance on the other side, but his effort went wide too.

Chabangu tried from a free kick in the 72nd but his shot went wide to the right.

Ntuli continued to get chances for Arrows and in the 77th minute he forced another save out of Etafia.

Swallows made it 2-1 as Luvhengo Mongomeni got to the end of a Chabangu free kick and headed in in the 79th minute

In the 86th minute Chabangu had another chance for the Birds but Gumede was able to make the save, as Arrows held on for the win.
