Gyimah In World Cup Scare

SuperSport United are waiting to hear the extent of Edwin Gyimah’s ankle injury, but it is feared that he could miss this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has been a fine performer for SuperSport over the last 18 months, claiming their Player of the Season award last term.

Gyimah has since broken into Ghana’s national team, and is a candidate for Akwasi Appiah’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.

However, the versatile defender now faces a worrying wait as he sees specialists about the ankle injury that forced him off in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates, and it could be that he requires an operation.

Speaking to the Siya crew, the club’s CEO, Stan Matthews, said, “We’re holding thumbs for him and hope that everything will be ok so that he can be back for us before the end of the season and in time for the World Cup with Ghana.”

Should Gyimah need an operation on his ankle then it could possibly rule him out for the rest of the season, and put a big dent in his World Cup dreams.
