Gyan: We Can Do It Again

Afcon Third Place Playoff: Ghana V Mali

Venue: Nelson Mandela Stadium

Time: 19h00

Channel: SS4/ SABC1

In the group stages of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana defeated Mali 1-0 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, with the teams again going head-to-head tonight in the third place play-off.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan told the Siya crew that the team is confident of duplicating their group stage win, and defeating Mali again. He did, however, add that the two teams know each other better now and that will make for an interesting encounter.

“They will be coming for revenge. They won't want to be beaten twice by the same team in the same tournament. But we can do it again. There is nothing much for us to prepare as we have played here with them before. We just have to do what we did in the first game and win," Gyan said.

His counterpart, Mali’s Seydou Keita, said that the past game counts for nothing, with the tournament being at a different stage.

“In the group stages you still hope on the next game. Here there is no next game. This is a final and we have to change what happened in the group stages by winning tonight. Anyone can win tonight and hopefully it will be us,” the former Barcelona midfielder concluded.
