Young Orlando Pirates defender Mbongeni Gumede is delighted to have rejoined the squad after spending a season on loan with National First Division side Jomo Cosmos.
“Home is home. I missed being here (at Pirates). I have been at Pirates since I was 11 years old. I am glad to be back with the team for pre-season,” Gumede told orlandopiratesfc.com.
“I certainly hope I will be able to convince the team to give me a chance to fight for place here - it will be tough but I am ready to work hard.
“I have matured over the years and I feel ready to fight. Pirates are a big team and the competition for places is obviously tough – let’s see what happens in the next few months,” added Gumede.
It’s not clear at this stage if Pirates will keep Gumede and allow him to fight for his place in the team or if they will send him out on loan once again.
Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will clash on July 27, with the title of 2013 Carling Black Label Cup champions up for grabs.
