SuperSport United talisman Bradley Grobler has shared his reaction after finally getting his hands on the coveted DStv Premiership Golden Boot Award for the 2020/21 season.
It seemed for a moment that the wheels were coming off for the 33-year-old after he picked up an injury halfway through the season, allowing the likes of Peter Shalulile to close the gap – despite Grobler’s impressive start to the campaign.
However, Grobler managed to hold onto the number one spot, ousting last season’s winner, Shalulile by a solitary goal to claim the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot Award.
Speaking exclusively to the Siya crew, Grobler opened up about the incredible feat he managed to achieve this season.
“The top goalscorer award for any striker that’s the award they want to win. I think any striker who says they don’t want it, is lying and as I said before, it’s twice now that I finished second and I’ve always just missed out on the last day and its been hard. It hasn’t been a nice feeling and then you know you gotta go again next season and start all over again and mentally its difficult but I’ve always believed in myself to score goals, as long as I stay injury free. All those seasons where I finished second, I was injury-free, I played a lot of games and its been the same this season, last season too, so I’ve always backed myself to score goals.
“For me its an unbelievable achievement, not just for me, for my dad as well. It's something I’ve always dreamt of,” he added.
