Glitch Emerges To Disrupt GladAfrica Championship Start

After acquiring a multi-million rand sponsorship and changed name from National First Division (NFD) to GladAfrica Championship, South Africa’s second-tier league will experience a disruption to its start due to a family dispute affecting one of the clubs.

KwaZulu-Natal’s Royal Eagles are currently affected by a family dispute, due to owners Sibusiso Mpisane (club chairman) and former wife Shauwn (deputy chairman) going separate ways from their marriage, with the matter between them already in courts of law.

The Siya crew has it on good authority that Mpisane – the husband – has written to the PSL to request postponement of Eagles’ matches for two weeks, despite the fact that the league has been scheduled to start this weekend.

According to a document seen by the Siya crew, the PSL has acceded to the request for postponement on basis of ‘exceptional circumstances’, and confirmed that Eagles’ first match will be on September 01, against the league’s newcomers JDR Stars.

Among other issues, the PSL has agreed that:

  • Affected clubs will be notified
  • Eagles’ match against Mbombela United scheduled for August 18 and the one against Jomo Cosmos scheduled for August 25 have been postponed to a date and time to be confirmed.
  • Eagles’ next match (first of the season) will be on September 01 at Chatsworth Stadium
  • Cost that have, or will arise due to postponement will be dealt with in due course
  • Registration of players date will not be extended on any basis, or for any reason after the transfer window deadline
  • Issues that have arisen regarding the club to be debated at the Executive Committee meeting on August 20
