Solinas: “Wits Taught Chiefs A Lesson”

Giovanni Solinas has admitted that Kaizer Chiefs defeat to Bidvest Wits as ‘a big lesson’, but insists that they will learn from it ahead of their clash with his former club.
The Italian is still waiting for his first win as head coach of the Glamour Boys since his appointment last month, with his two games so far ending in a draw and a defeat. Now, with a spot in the next round of the MTN8 up for grabs, they need get a result.
Steve Komphela’s 2017/18 campaign got underway in the exact same manner last season as the Glamour Boys drew their opening game before losing their second Absa Premiership match, and the 50-year-old will be eager to make sure they don’t come off second best in the first round of the MTN8 for the third year in a row.
Speaking to the club’s official website following the defeat this week, Solinas said, “We must learn from this game and we need to have a reaction. We have to show character.
“It was a tough match against a good opponent. They came and played counter-attack. They had three chances and scored three times. We created more chances, but only netted once.
“I am disappointed. We were all in a good mood after our great performance against Mamelodi Sundowns, only conceding from a penalty. However, today, the distance between the players was too big, leaving too much space for the Wits players to run into.
“We win together, we lose together. Today was a big lesson, but we must now focus on our next game.”
