Solinas Explains Amakhosi Subs: He Told Me ‘I Am Finished!’
Giovanni Solinas has explained the thinking behind his substitutions last night as Kaizer Chiefs were beaten 3-1 by Bidvest Wits at home.
The Amakhosi are still waiting for their first three points of the season having drawn with Mamelodi Sundowns and been well beaten by the Clever Boys, and the Italian is already coming in for criticism by some of the Glamour Boys’ supporters.
Speaking after the game at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, Solinas gave some insight into his subs for the evening, admitting that Leonardo Castro asked to be substituted because he was ‘finished’.
The 50-year-old told the media, “We needed more pressure offensively, and this is why we put Paez, to play with the double striker and put more pressure.
“Afterwards, Castro said that his energy was finished, and he needed a change. He said. ‘Coach, I am finished’, and this is why we changed him.
“I put a fast player like Kabelo, and then the last substitution I took out a defender for a midfielder to try and score in the last 10 minutes.”
Chiefs’ next game sees them face Solinas’ old side, Free State Stars, in the MTN8 this weekend.
