Solinas Reveals His Chiefs’ Philosophy

Kaizer Chiefs’ new head coach, Giovanni Solinas, has given some insight into his playing philosophy at Naturena, although admitted that it could take some time to implement.

The Italian will get his tenure with the club officially underway this weekend when they face Mamelodi Sundowns in his first game in charge, and the Amakhosi faithful will be interested to see how they set up against the reigning Absa Premiership champions.

Solinas had two spells with Free State Stars in the past and is no stranger to the Premier Soccer League, but will need to improve his win ratio this time around if he’s going to appease the Glamour Boys’ supporters.

Speaking about his move, the 50-year-old told the club’s official website, “I am busy implementing my philosophy of football, which is attacking football… That takes time and that’s a reality. We have to be patient. But I am extremely happy with the attitude, the commitment and the focus of the players at training. We are working hard to improve the tactics, fitness and psychological approach.

“To prepare a winning team takes time. That’s not an excuse, that’s the nature of football. I know that the supporters want to win trophies and that’s what we all want. That comes with pressure, but that’s no problem. I am used to pressure. We are working hard to fulfil the fans’ wish to get a trophy. We will fight for our jersey, our colours and our badge to defend our honour.”

Chiefs have George Maluleka and Teenage Hadebe as doubts for the encounter with Masandawana, but will be buoyed by their recent record against the Brazilians, having not lost to them since November 2016.
