Chippa United are set to table a deal for Rudiger Gilbert. The defender arrived in the Mother City about two weeks ago, for a trial at Ajax Cape Town, however now looks set to pen a deal with the Chilli Boys.
Chippa invited Gilbert to the club after he was turned down at the Urban Warriors. The Wilfred Mugeyi-coached side have taken the former Free State Stars defender along to Port Elizabeth for their preparations in anticipation of the second half of the season.
A well-placed source at the Siviwe Mpengesi-owned side confirmed that the club’s management and the technical team have decided to offer the player a contract.
“Rudiger Gilbert will be signed. He is with us here in PE. We took him with us to PE and kept quiet about it. He did well to convince the technical team that he is the right player for the job.
“We are impressed with his high work-rate. He has done his part and we’ll just sit down with him and negotiate on our arrival in Cape Town,” said the source.
Gilbert will be delighted at the opportunity to play for the PSL side alongside the team’s other new signings, including Mbulelo Mabizela and Masibusane Zongo.
