Former Free State Stars defender Rudiger Gilbert is hoping to find a club before the end of January.
Although Gilbert is a free agent and not restricted by the transfer window, he is hoping to land a new deal soon and get his professional career back on track. The 25-year-old has been club-less since parting ways with Ea Lla Koto earlier this season and has already had a trial with Bloemfontein Celtic.
However, he explained that nothing has materialised from his time at Siwele. “Nothing happened there. The coach said he was going to call me. He hasn’t called me yet,” said Gilbert.
AmaZulu showed interest in the player under coach Roger Palmgren earlier in the season, and although the Swedish mentor has since left the side, the club could renew their interest in the Upington-born player.
Usuthu are currently in the hunt for a right-back, with Craig Rosslee and his team assessing Luyanda Hlongwa. Ironically Hlongwa is also from Stars, having been signed as a replacement for Gilbert when he joined the team at the beginning of the season.
