Sithole: If You’re Not Smart, It’s A Problem…

Platinum Stars defender, Gift Sithole, says that the club needs to be smarter if they’re to claw their way up and out of the Absa Premiership relegation zone.

Dikwena have won fewer games this season than any other team in South Africa’s top-flight, but despite having just one victory to their name are just 10 points behind current leaders, Baroka.

Sithole has played seven times for Dikwena this campaign in what is his fifth season with the club, including last week’s disappointing draw with Bakgaga as they conceded an equaliser in the last minute.

Now, as they focus on taking on fellow bottom-of-the-table strugglers, Polokwane City, the 35-year-old is eager to get back to winning ways.

He said in a press release, “We want to win so badly. There are nine points to play for. We have to get them and move. Nine points will take us way up on the log. When we come back in January, we have to be in a better position.  I believe in my team and I have confidence that we will move from where we are.

“It’s not good that we have had so many draws. The last game, we managed to score more than one goal but it was disappointing because we conceded and the match ended with a draw. Had we won that game, we wouldn’t be having the pressure that we have now. Whatever happens at training is what happens in matches. The coach tells us that something is going to happen and it happens the same way in a match but we fail to deal with it. Sometimes we have (a) lapse of concentration.”

On four separate occasions this season, Stars have failed to clinch victory from a winning position, and Sithole says that needs to change. He concluded, “We have to be smart sometimes. You can work hard but if you are not smart it’s a problem. The way we play, we don’t deserve to be where we are.”

Roger de Sa’s side face City tomorrow evening, with a victory possibly taking them up to 12th place.
