Visiting the late former South Africa President Nelson Mandela’s home remains one of the greatest memories for Ghanaian international defender Samuel Inkoom, who is now plying his trade in Georgia.
Following Ghana’s loss to Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup at FNB Stadium, the late Madiba invited the Black Stars to his Johannesburg home the day after the match, a moment that Inkoom says was a dream come true.

“We were the only African country that remained in the World Cup when all the other teams had been knocked out. I remember when the late Nelson Mandela invited us to his house and it was lovely,” he said.

“He is was an incredible person – one of my favourite in the world when we talk about the leaders. I was so proud to have the honour of meeting him because when I was young I learned about him in school. It was a dream come true for me when I met him. I don’t know how to describe the feeling but I was so honored. He was one of the greatest leaders in the world,” Inkoom explained.
