Modabi Explains Why Nyatama Should Win Midfielder Of The Season Award
Gerald Modabi Picks His PSL Midfielder Of The Season
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Gerald Modabi, has tipped Musa Nyatama to win the PSL’s Midfielder of the Season award ahead of his competitors.
Nyatama has been rewarded with a nomination for the PSL’s end of the season awards for the key role he played in Pirates’ midfield and his commitment to the team’s progress in his first season with the club.
On Monday, the PSL revealed the nominees for this season’s Absa Premiership end of the season awards. Nyatama has been nominated on the PSL’s Midfielder of the Season category alongside Siphesihle Ndlovu of Maritzburg United and Hlompho Kekana from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Modabi commended Nyatama for the role he played for Milutin Sredojevic’s team.
“I think Musa Nyatama and Hlompho Kekana will go head to head on this one. It’s a catch-22 situation, with Hlompho Kekana having won the league (with Sundowns) and still in the Champions League, and Musa having done well with Pirates as he missed only two games, I think they will be against each other for the ultimate winner of the prize.
"I think Musa Nyatama will take it home because he worked hard. He did a lot of work for the team. It is not easy to get to the club and crack it. Not only did the coach believe in him, but the supporters as well. I would hope that he wins it for his own personal benefit. He’s not a youngster anymore. I don’t think he has many Midfielder of the Season awards left to win after this,” said the former midfield genius.
Nyatama has also been nominated in the Player’s Player of the Season category alongside Siphesihle Ndlovu and Sundowns’ Percy Tau.
Winners will be unveiled on May 29 at the awards ceremony in Johannesburg.
