Former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Gerald Modabi, believes that Linda Mntambo should be playing ahead of Xola Mlambo at the Soweto giants.
Despite having made only five Absa Premiership starts so far this season, Mntambo has impressed Modabi, who feels that the central midfielder deserves more chance to play in coach Milutin Sredojevic’s team.
Mntambo, 29, has been recovering from a groin injury he suffered in the CAF Champions League match against Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
“I sang Linda Mntambo's praises in your publication and he hasn’t disappointed. He could do a lot more with more chances. For me, he should be starting matches ahead of Xola Mlambo. He is mobile and he has got the physique. He’s got an eye for goal. How many goals has Xola Mlambo scored? Zero! How many goals has Linda Mntambo scored? He’s scored a few. Who should be starting between Xola and Linda? It’s called politics,” said Modabi.
“If I was Micho I was going to go for Linda because he gives a lot more. He is a box to box player and he’s got the energy. He’s got the appetite to score goals and he is skilful. When you play for a club like Pirates sometimes you need to have a little bit of luck. If you turn around with the ball and do a 360-degree turn that defines how your stay will be. For me, that’s exactly what happened with Xola Mlambo. He got the backing of the supporters and that became a mainstay,” added the former midfielder.
